HPV is a DNA virus that primarily spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract and can cause cervical cancer in women, other types of cancer, and genital warts in both men and women. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, with HPV being the primary cause. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed each year, resulting in nearly 300,000 deaths. Some HPV types can cause benign growths called genital warts, which appear as small, flesh-colored bumps or clusters in the genital or anal area. Certain high-risk HPV types are linked to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, anus, and throat. Persistent infection with these high-risk types can lead to cellular changes that may progress to cancer over time.
The HPV Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Human Papillomavirus antigen in human cervical swab specimen as an aid for the screening of cervical cancer and infection of HPV-16/18.
