PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) has gained prominence as one of the most valuable tumor markers and is currently used for screening, diagnosis and monitoring for prostate cancer.

Due to highly invasive nature of biopsy, screening with PSA testing obviates avoidable biopsy in many cases, hence preferred by doctors as first line screening test in suspected prostate cancer cases.

The generally accepted cut-off level is 4 ng/ml for likelihood of Prostate Cancer and further biopsy. However, there have been published papers on use of 3 ng/ml as cut-off, which has been documented to be of higher significance in early diagnosis of Prostate Cancer.
